Use 2Wire Cable Modem Speed Test to Check Your Bandwidth
Why is it important to do a cable modem speed test every
once in a while? There is at least one very important reason...
Your broadband cable connection speed can be affected by
the number of other subscribers using the service in your area.
The more people using service from your provider, the
lower your bandwidth can go.
Check your cable modem connection speed at 2Wire.com.
Really, you can check the bandwidth of any broadband connection.
To do a cable modem speed test, simply click on the
link at the bottom of this page (or type the URL www.2wire.com into
your browser's address bar).
Once on the site, click on the "Speed Meter" link (or
button). A page will come up with the message, "Testing Your Connection
Speed..."
When the test is complete, the bandwidth or the amount of
data that your network can send and receive in a given period of time will
be displayed on the same page, somewhat like this:
Bandwidth = 291.1 Kbps (your value may very well be very
different). Actually, you may get different results at different times of
testing.
To determine whether you have the right speed (or
bandwidth) you should reference this against the product or service you
subscribe to. Broadband speeds will vary depending on the service package.
In other words, your cable modem speed test results may
not be bad if you are a low end subscriber. For example, service providers
may have different service packages for home users and businesses.
So if your connection speed is greater at work, make sure
you are not comparing "apples and oranges". Compare what your service
provider said your speed should be to the bandwidth result you are
getting.
