A Clean Registry Means Fewer Nagging Computer Problems
Have you ever wondered how significant it is to maintain a clean
registry? You may quickly think of doing a
temporary internet file check,
remove spyware from your hard drive, or do a
virus check every week,
but...
A clean registry? Few PC users will remember to do this. Maybe it
is because it is such a tricky piece of computer maintenance.
Why You Should Clean the Registry
Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms with your
computer?
-
noticeably long startup times - your computer takes longer and
longer to startup; much longer than when you just got it.
-
relatively long shutdown times - it pains you to have to wait
for a complete shutdown after you give the shutdown command.
-
usually your system needs a refreshing after at least a year. If
you have kept your system very busy (like me) for six months to a
year, you should refresh your operating system.
A clean registry - a lean, sleek, trimmed-down database - means
a more efficient computer system. If you experience any of the above
you know it's time to do something. When you install and
uninstall programs, information get added to the registry.
Information about programs you download get written to the registry.
Any changes, additions to program settings, get stored in the
Windows system registry. Sometimes references in the registry
become invalid. This can happen for many reasons. You need a clean
registry for efficient computing. There is a lot of time wasted when
Windows tries to find an invalid reference. Your computer might even
hang. Has this ever happened to you? With time, the registry
becomes 'bloated', humongous, and cumbersome during ordinary use.
Information stored in the registry can become obsolete. These old
bits of information take up space, uses up more valuable memory, and
slows your computer. Even if you uninstall programs the proper way
- by using the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel - some
pieces of information still get left behind in the registry.
Even
if the programs' sub-directories in the Program Files folder are
removed, some uninstallers do not do a thorough job. Having a
Clean Registry
To have a clean registry you need to search for and delete the
invalid references. No one would encourage you to do this by hand. (Ooohh!
That's a painful thought).
It's best to use a good registry cleaner program. I recommend the
very popular
CleanMyPC™ Registry Cleaner.
It comes with lifetime free upgrade.

seconds to download over my DSL connection (a little more if you use
dialup). But you will be very glad you did.
