Email Filter & spam killer Checkup
Protecting Your eMail - Try these simple suggestions and put a lock on the door
against spam
Unsolicited email (or spam) affects you in at least three
ways. Using a good email filter or multiple spam detection techniques can
save you time and money.
Spam wastes your time
Your time is money, and these unsolicited emails could
really take a lot of time to handle.
Sifting through tons of unwanted junk by hand drives me
crazy. It really takes a lot of time to decipher which piece of email is
legitimate and what is not.
It takes time for your computer to download, process, and
display these unwanted messages. Most of the contents have nothing to do
with you or your interests anyway.
Spam clogs your computer system
Without a spam filter at the email server level, all the
junk comes right into your computer. Make sure you enable any spam
filtering feature provided by your email host.
Often these unwanted messages have images, script files,
and other web elements that get stored on your computer without your
knowledge.
In fact, as long as a page is displayed in your browser
or email client, the files (pictures, style formatting) are already saved
in your temporary internet file section of your hard drive. And...
With the volume of the spam flood nowadays, even the
biggest hard drive will start noticing the bloat soon.
You email could be mistaken
Most people do not think of their email being mistaken as
spam. Hey, just because you are a legitimate user of the addresses in your
address book doesn't mean your message won't end up in the trash.
If the recipient turns on her email filter, your message
could very well get nabbed as spam. Why?
Consider how a spam killer program determines whether or
not a piece of email is spam. It depends on the words used in your email
message and on the settings of the recipient's email filter program.
When certain words and phrases occur in your email
subject and body, the program labels it as potential spam and it could be
handled as such.
You can ensure that your message gets to the inbox (or at
least increase the chance tremendously) by checking your messages for 'spamminess'
before you send them.
Spam-check your outgoing email
Every time I do a mass mailing I get a spam-check report
on the message before I send it. It only takes a literal minute to do this
and the suggestions in the report are very helpful.
