Internet Speed Test - See if your PC is making the grade
Do you use a dialup connection to the Internet? Or, maybe you have
broadband connection...
It doesn't matter what type of connection, it needs tuning and tweaking
from time to time. Just like your car needs regular tune-ups, so does your
Internet connection.
Do an Internet speed test on your internet connection, then use the
results to optimize your PC performance.
Recently, I used a friend's computer to make a download. I had
forgotten the 'feel' of dialup, and her 56K modem felt like it had
regressed to a 28.8K.
Here are some speed tests you can do:
Many PC users try to adjust to the increasing slowness of their
computer until their patience run out. You don't have to.
You can put back the sprint into your computer by:
-
testing your internet connection
-
optimizing the modem and/or internet settings, and by
-
boosting your overall system performance
Where to start?
Start by first doing an internet speed test. If you have dialup
connection click here to optimize your
modem connection speed.
If you are using DSL connection,
test your connection speed - uploading and downloading. And, remember
your computer is always open to the Internet. This means you should make
your connection secure.
Broadband connections (dsl, cable, satellite) are vulnerable to
intrusion from hackers and viruses. Test your speed and test your
security.
Are you using a cable connection? Although cable is faster than DSL,
remember that the performance of your cable connection is dependent on the
number of subscribers in your area.
The more subscribers on line at any given time the lower your
bandwidth. Before you think something is wrong with your computer, check
your cable connection speed.
