Keep Your Operating System up
to date - Using Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows 98? Run Windows
Update Now The modern computer can run several pieces of
software all at once. This multi-tasking capability comes with its
complexities.
Secure Your Operating System With Frequent Windows
UpdateEvery so often, Microsoft discovers a
potential flaw in its operating system. It is quite easy to do an
installation of, say the Windows 2000 Professional, and neglect to do an
update. When you run your installation of Windows 2000
obtained from a year or so ago, you may find you are running IE 5 with 56
bit encryption. That level of security is inadequate
for transaction, such as with the banks. You need a Windows Update to
boost up your computer security to an acceptable 128-bit encryption level.
Maintain a Lean and Efficient Registry in Windows XP, Windows 2000, or
Windows 98/METhe
Windows registry stores all the hardware, software, and user settings
in one massive database that often gets bloated. A
clean registry is necessary to the
smooth running of a computer system. There are also security pitfalls in
an over-weight registry as well. Even Windows XP,
which is touted to have some "self-cleaning" features, gets in disrepair
sometimes. If you use Windows 98, ME or Windows 2000 you need to refresh
your computer every six months for optimum efficiency.
This is annoying to some people who don't any additional hassle other than
that of an ageing computer that's running slower and slower every day.
However the problem can be solved by refreshing your operating system.
That is, backup all your important
information, format your hard drive,
and re-install or upgrade your operating
system and software. It makes a world of
difference. All this, plus how to
recover intentionally deleted files, is covered in this section.
