Use These Tuneup Utility Programs to Ensure Optimum Security and
Performance
What tuneup utility software do you use to keep your computer safe
and performing properly?
Do you run your car everyday for a whole year without having a
tuneup? Some people do, but you can tell what kind of car they'll have
in a short while.
You need to use tune-up utility programs - software utility that you
can use to adjust system settings in response to "wear and tear"
caused by
regular use.
Every computer needs to have at least three categories of tuneup
utility software:
• Backup and storage utilities
• Registry Cleaner & Optimizer software
• Disk
Cleanup & Temporary File Removal Utilities
Software programmers cannot anticipate everything that can happen
in a computer and provide a fix in advance. Why?
(a) They can never know the nature of all the software you will put
on your computer after you buy it.
(b) They can never know exactly how each user will use the computer,
so...
Tuning and cleaning becomes the responsibility of the computer user
- YOU. Corporate networks hire network and server administrators.
Small business and home owners have to roll up their sleeves.
This is one of the first rules of safe computing -
backup your work
and your system information. Most computers have enough generic utilities for
doing this.
Windows XP automatically stores your system settings as restore
points. You can do a System Restore operation to reset your settings
to a previously working state.
Most people, however, find some of these programs
difficult to use. It's a general problem with digital information,
really. You can have it but still just can't "put your finger on it".
Where is my file? Where did I put it?
To backup your system using Windows Backup utility,
Start-->Programs-->Accessories-->System Tools and choose
Backup.
Click Backup to launch the Windows backup utility. This is a tuneup
utility as well. Some document files that are not used often can be
saved on removable media. You free up disk space that way!
The first time you run this program a Wizard may be
launched. This is very much like a setup routine. It will guide you
through the steps.

You can choose to "Always start in wizard mode" or switch to the
"Advanced mode" if you really know what you are doing.
Using the backup wizard, you can make backup copies
of your documents, or all documents (if you have a multi-user
machine). You can backup all files on your computer or selected files.
As I said, some people find third party programs more
specific for the task and easier to use as well.
I like
WinBackup by LIUtilities. This backup and tuneup utility
secures all your data in your home or office with a single click.
Backup Outlook Express e-mails, address books, your Internet
favorites, and My Documents folder.
And you won't have to spend hours on the phone with a
technical support person! NOTE: The links to
this product open a
trial download page or a
sales page. Yes, you can try WinBackup first.

A registry cleaner is a really important tuneup
utility. I have described the contents of the
registry as the DNA of your computer.
These codes can spiral out of control.
Cleaning the registry is not the everyday computer
users' forte'. It could get really tricky. It is best to use a good
registry cleaner that will allow you to undo changes it things go
awry.
You can read about one of the best and most efficient
registry cleaner and tuneup utility
here as well as download a trial version.

Don't think you need a disk cleanup and tuneup
utility? Well, your computer is not as fast as it was a few months
ago. Soon your computer will just die - the digital cardiac arrest!
There are thousands of files with formats such as *.tmp,
~*.*, *.gid, and others that accrue by the dozens daily! They are
clutter - like cholesterol debris that clog your computer system.
A disk cleaning utility can prevent the accumulation
of these files. Many of these are cached files in your temporary
internet files folder.
How do you remove these unwanted files? See my
suggestion of a package that is much more than a tuneup utility - it's
a computer mechanic shop all
by itself.
